Accident news this morning comes out of Delaware County in the town of Darby. Police say the accident occurred just shortly after midnight on Lansdowne Avenue. Unfortunately, this single motor vehicle accident serves to prove that almost any accident can happen at any time and that the results can be extremely severe.
Even though there was only one car involved, the female driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole. The impact was so severe that it managed to split the utility pole in half, taking down wires as well as a tree in the process. Rescue crews had to work tirelessly to free the critically injured driver from the car that had turned onto its side during the wreck. The driver was trapped in the vehicle for over half an hour before being taken to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.
While we typically think of the most devastating car accidents as involving more than one vehicle, this crash helps remind us how important it is to maintain focus and attention while behind the wheel. There is no word as to exactly how or why the driver lost control of her vehicle, but it can’t be blamed on weather or other drivers.
