Penn Street Bridge Closed Down Due to Multi-Vehicle Crash

Penn Street SUV CrashAround 9:00 am this morning, police responded to a serious motor vehicle accident in West Reading. The accident took place on the Penn Street Bridge between W. Reading and Reading, closing the bridge for a little more than three hours. A westbound SUV struck an oncoming vehicle after crossing over the center median by the West Shore Bypass interchange. A third car was also involved in the accident.

29-year-old Tilaye Zelleke, a resident of Blandon, was the driver of the SUV that caused the crash. Zelleke is facing charges for causing the accident and not being licensed properly. Zellekes’ SUV rolled onto its roof while another vehicles’ roof had to be removed with the jaws of life in order to save its driver. All three drivers were transported to Reading Hospital for their injuries, and thankfully, no one died.

According to witnesses, death should have been the result of such an intense crash, and each motorist is lucky to be alive. Alive and lucky they may be, but each driver is currently suffering from a variety of serious and even catastrophic injuries today. The residents of both Reading and West Reading were a bit surprised by this accident, but it serves to remind us all that these things can happen at any time.

At Edelstein, Martin, & Nelson we know that these accidents happen, and even if you are as careful as possible, there is always a chance you can be involved in such a crash. If you have found yourself the victim of a serious car accident, call 888-208-1810 to discuss your next move, today.
