Accident on I-80 Injures 3 Highway Workers in Tobyhanna

Highway Work Zone Crash in TobyhannaMost people realize that construction workers have a generally dangerous job, especially those who work on the highway. In a sadly ironic event, a motor vehicle accident occurred today during Work Zone Awareness Week in which three highway workers were struck by a vehicle on Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township.

The accident happened this afternoon in the westbound lanes of I-80. While the specific details of the crash are currently under investigation, it is believed that a vehicle was speeding through a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation construction work zone. The car that sped through the work zone apparently crashed and unfortunately slammed into three workers. Construction Accidents can be detrimental under any circumstances but are always severe when a vehicle is involved.

Ronald Young, spokesman for Pennsylvania DOT said that two workers were taken by road to a medical facility, while one worker had to be flown to the hospital for his injuries. Catastrophic injuries are not a surprising result of such an accident, although the exact details of the accident and degree of injuries have not yet been made available.
